Spring Message

Greetings Milford Central School Community,

I hope this letter finds you well. With the promise of warmer weather just around the corner, we are eagerly anticipating the opportunity for spring seasons and to see our students enjoy the outdoors once again.

I wanted to take a moment to provide you with some updates on upcoming events and initiatives in our school our community:

1. Unused Emergency Days – We have four remaining emergency days still unaccounted for this year.  We will be using the following “give back days”  April 8th, May 10th,17th, & 23rd. In the event of a school closure, we will take back May 10th and then 17th in that order.

2. School Budget Planning for 2024-2025 – MCS held budget workshops on February 13th and March 19th. We have scheduled an additional budget workshop on April 2nd.  Budget updates will continue through April, leading up to our public hearing scheduled for May 7th. The budget newsletter will be mailed the day after the hearing. Please visit our webpage to view all presentations and budget information.  Budget Information Link.

3. Communication Survey – Thank you to all who took part in our communication survey.  What we learned: Of those who took part,  88.4% are Very Satisfied, Satisfied, or Neutral with the school’s communication, 69% would prefer to receive school information via text or email, and 61% would prefer to receive information weekly.  Thank you so much for your suggestions on improving communication.  Notable were more timely information, particularly about guest speakers and curriculum, creating more opportunities for parents to be in the school building and favorable comments about our newsletters.  We will continue to address communication concerns as we strive to meet and exceed our District Goal of engaging with our school community. Survey Results.

4. Climate Survey – Please take the time to complete the 2024 Climate survey, it is posted to the school’s website or paper copies can be picked up at school.  (The Survey will be available through May 3, 2024.)  Your participation will provide valuable information that will be used to guide and shape our goals moving forward.

5. Enrichment Programs - This year students were challenged with three exciting after school enrichment programs - Learn How to Knit Art Program, Games and Puzzles to Develop Math Thinkers, and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Learning!

6.Capital Project and Capital Outlay Project Updates – We are actively moving ahead with updates to our Bus Garage with the installation of new doors and windows through the 2023-2024 Capital Outlay Project that was approved as part of the 2023-2024 budget.  We are excited to be working with Oneonta Garage Doors on this project.  We expect work to begin fairly quickly with a completion date of June 30th. We have begun meeting with our Architects and project managers in preparation for our 2025 Capital Project that focuses on much needed improvement to our infrastructure.  More information about the capital project and its progress can be found here: Capital Project Link.

8. Digital Sign - Thank you to our donors for their generous support, we are over halfway there.  To date we have raised $23,990.00. Digital Sign Information Link.

9. Board of Education Election Petitions - There are two Board of Education seats open this year.  Each is for a three-year term.  If you are interested in serving our district in this capacity, please contact the District Clerk, Brenda Lang at (607) 286-3349.
